The Activity and Educational Program features a variety of tools - including beat-finding and shaker rhythm exercises - that may help your memory or the memory of someone you love. CDs can be listened to on a daily basis or multiple times a day, and there will soon be several volumes to choose from. Volume 1 is for new listeners and provides a general introduction, including a home activity program, music history lesson/overview, and ambient music to be listened to during sleep to help stimulate the mind. The program has been used by individuals across a variety of levels of functioning. These include normal thinking and memory skills, Age-Related Memory Loss, Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI), mild, moderate and severe Alzheimer's disease, vascular cognitive impairment, vascular dementia, and Parkinson's disease dementia, among others.

Tracks are divided into categories based on difficulty. While each individual is different, the easy tracks are well suited across several stages of memory loss (e.g., Mild, Moderate, Severe). The medium and hard tracks are well suited for individuals with mild to moderate stages of memory loss, age-related memory loss, mild cognitive impairment (MCI) or as an activity and educational program for individuals without memory impairments. Our program applies the clinical and evidence-based use of music interventions, activities and education. While music therapy may also be classified as one-on-one sessions and a personally designed program by a certified music therapist, many individuals do not have access to or cannot afford this type of highly effective and intensive therapy.

Our Tranquil Sounds for Sleep CD is designed as background music to be listened to while sleeping. In fact, memories are formed during sleep, also known as "memory consolidation." Scientific studies, like this article published in the journal Science, and reported in Time magazine, have shown that listening to specific sounds during sleep may help you remember them in the daytime. Our Tranquil Sounds for Sleep CD contains 5 soothing instrumental tracks (over 60 minutes) that were formatted according to the stages of sleep.

arrowWhat does the music activity CD contain?
Each CD includes a variety of mind-stimulating and memory-improving activities as well as an introduction to the program.

arrowWhat types of activity programs do the CDs cover?
The CDs include a variety of activities such as music history, beat-finding and shaker rhythm exercises as well conducting activities in different patterns. The aim is to make the listener a part of the band (and, in the process, to have some fun). Each CD also contains music to be listened to while sleeping, as the latest research has shown that memory can be stimulated by listening to music containing familiar sounds while asleep.

arrowWhat do you mean by beat-finding? Beat-finding exercises require listeners to either clap their hands, tap their fingers on their knee or stomp their feet in time to the beat. Most songs have a steady beat or a pulse that continues throughout. Finding this beat and following it rhythmically will help listeners to concentrate -- which will in turn challenge their brains. We recommend repeating this exercise because listeners will be better able to find the beat of music that's familiar.

arrowWhat do you mean by shaker rhythm exercises?
Shaker rhythm exercises require listeners to participate with the music by using a shaker or other homemade instrument to follow the beat. You can purchase a shaker here or simply use a box of Tic-Tac's or plastic cup filled with coins.

arrowAside from exercises and activities, is there music to listen to on the CD?
The end of each CD features an additional 20-30 minutes of a variety of music that's meant to be played in the background of daily routines or before bed. A variety of scientific studies have shown that listening to this type of music -- even in the background -- has a substantial impact on thinking skills in those who have experienced changes in memory.
